Atole

 Atole is a traditional hot drink from Mexico. People love to drink it on cold days and special occasions. It comes from the Aztecs, who called it "atolli."

There are different types of atole. For example, champurrado is the chocolate version, and it goes great with tamales. There are also strawberry, vanilla, and even fresh corn versions.

Atole is special for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Christmas. It keeps an old tradition alive and warms you up at the same time. If you want a cozy and traditional drink, you should try it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of corn flour (masa harina) or cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar (or piloncillo)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (vanilla essence) (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the corn flour: In a small bowl, mix the corn flour with water and stir until smooth, making sure there are no lumps.
  2. Heat the milk: In a pot, Next, add sugar and a cinnamon stick to the milk and heat it until warm. Slowly pour the corn flour mixture into the pot. Stir all the time. Keep stirring for about 5 minutes. The atole will become thick. Before turning off the heat, add the vanilla extract (vanilla essence) and mix well.
  3. Serve hot: Pour into cups and enjoy! You can sprinkle a little cinnamon on top.
